Club Information

Bacchus Marsh Bowmen (BMB) Inc. has been in existence since 1979 with our original club grounds located in Bacchus Marsh. In 1989 the club moved to our current location at 28 Bullard Road, Gisborne while retaining our original Club name after the move. BMB is affiliated under the national Australian Bowhunters Association (ABA).  The township of Gisborne is located approximately 55 km Northwest of Melbourne along the Calder Freeway with our grounds approximately 5km Southeast of the Gisborne CBD on the Gisborne-Melton Road.  The club is set among 56 hectares of native forest sustaining a wide range of flora and fauna to walk among.

The club offers field archery in a bush setting across 5 challenging 20 target courses, with two 3D courses and an IFAA course overlay. Close to our club rooms we have our marked distance practice butts and a sight-in shooting lane.  The BMB grounds are acknowledged to be Victoria’s most varied and testing with our courses taking advantage of the natural topography to set challenging 3D, ABA and IFAA courses.  Our courses require flat, declined, inclined and elevated shooting positions into, over and alongside varying gullies, hillsides and smaller ravines to compliment flatter sections.

The club maintains modern and spacious facilities including a new amenity block with separate sex showering facilities.  The grounds are accessed by quality all-weather roads with ample car parking and camping facilities for overnight competitions.  Canteen facilities are provided on competition days with the club supporting EFT payment with BMB members enjoying 7 days a week of access to the grounds to practice on.

Those wanting to start archery can participate in our monthly Introduction Course which teaches basic archery knowledge, proper shooting form and range safety under the tutelage of qualified coach or Instructors using club equipment.  Novice archers are mentored and supported by the club so that every new archer can realise their full archery potential.

The club holds monthly intra club competitions rotating through ABA, 3D and occasional IFFA styles with our members travelling widely both intra and interstate to compete in archery competitions.   We have a wide diversity of members with ages ranging from young cubs through to members in their 70’s still actively competing.

The club adheres to strong administrative and governance processes delivering a cohesive, safe and inclusive club environment where new friendships are easily formed, and everybody is made to feel welcome and has a voice in the club.

Archery is a rare sport where sexes compete on an even footing according to age: (Cub <13yrs, Junior 13yrs - <17yrs, Senior 17yrs+) and class of bow being used. The Club is enjoying increasing numbers of families and younger members joining.

Due to insurance legalities, the Club is unable to provide group archery activities to school groups, social clubs, community groups, birthday party or other group archery activities etc, as only full and temporary members can undertake archery activities on our club grounds. Details on how to learn archery is located in our New Member section.

Broad head arrows are not to be used anywhere on Bacchus Marsh Bowmen club grounds. Hunting on club grounds is strictly prohibited.
